Gum Disease

Gum disease can happen for a variety of reasons:

  • Build up of plaque and bacteria
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Diabetes or other bodily conditions
  • Smoking and/or drug use
  • Decay below the gums
  • Broken down tooth or fillings
  • Excess filling material
  • Irritation and foreign body
  • Excess biting forces on that tooth

The result causes bone levels to fall and as such gum levels also start to fall.

In the long term the tooth loses its surrounding support and can become very loose, eventually needing an extraction. There are multiple treatment options and they depend on the particular condition. Come in for a check up and we will identify and then address the source of the problem.
